Oak Sixth Form

SMSC

SMSC at Oak Sixth Form enables students to engage critically with and explore diverse ideas, beliefs, cultures and encourage students to consider a wide range of political, social, ethical and moral problems; exploring opinions and ideas other than their own.
Our students are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed for effective and democratic participation, helping them to make a difference in their communities and the wider world.

This year has seen Sixth Form involved in a wide variety of activities and events, all of which have encouraged our students to view life from a different point of view. Whether it was taking part in the life changing CRED Foundation Trips to Bulgaria and Malawi, giving fun and enjoyment at Christmas to residents of a local Day Care Centre for adults with disabilities or meeting with volunteers from the Amy Winehouse Foundation, our Sixth Formers have worked hard to ensure that each event was a success.

As well as giving to others through these events, our students have also benefited by visits from UK Politicians and attending workshops at the Houses of Parliament; learning about the UK political system and the history behind this country’s democracy.

We must stop thinking of the individual and start thinking about what is best for society.
