Oak Sixth Form

Careers, Advice and Guidance

All students at Oak Sixth Form participate in a whole range of activities throughout the year, designed to develop skills, knowledge and gain experience which will assist them as they progress onto Higher Education and/or the work place. Through working with AspireBU, Young Enterprise, JP Morgan and other organisations our students learn to identify their key skills and suitable career paths.

 Higher Education

All students are given the opportunity to attend HE conventions, visit University Open Days and attend residential camps at different universities. Students wishing to attend university are given support and guidance regarding the UCAS process, including advice on student finance and personal statement writing. We are proud of our students' success in achieving places on their chosen university courses.

The support I received with my personal statement was excellent, always being available when I needed it. I was encouraged to expand creatively on my own ideas and this added great depth to my university application. Due to this I am thrilled to have been offered an Unconditional Place at Bournemouth University studying Psychology.”

Apprenticeships, Traineeships, School Leavers Programmes and Employment

At Oak Sixth Form, we understand that not every student wishes to progress onto Higher Education and that often the most appropriate career path is one via an Apprenticeship, Traineeship or other programme. All students are given the opportunity to develop and improve their employability skills through a programme of mock interviews, work placements and mentoring. A Careers Adviser is available to provide support and guidance where required and students are regularly given information regarding different opportunities available within their chosen career fields.

"I have decided to do an Apprenticeship because you get paid and get hands on experience at the same time. The mock interview I took part in was very helpful as I now know and understand what employers are looking for"
