Year 9

Introduction

Welcome to Year 9. Here at Oak Academy, Year 9 is when we expect students to really become self-reliant and responsible learners. Because we recognise the importance for GCSE success at the end of year 11 for increased life chances, we begin the GCSE programmes of study in Year 9, in order to ensure that all students achieve optimum success. This means that work done this year will lay the foundations for future exams, and must be seen as a springboard into Key Stage 4. Ongoing support will still be provided for those students who need it and all students will be encouraged to aim for the very best they can achieve. During this year, there will be opportunities to sit a GCSE examination in Humanities to begin building that all-important portfolio of qualifications leading into further education and advanced learning, as well as future careers.

Organisation and Staffing

In Year 9 students are organised into tutor groups in order to look after their needs in terms of personal and social development, as well as academic progress.  Your child’s Personal Tutor will be your first point of contact should you have any concerns about how your child is settling at Oak Academy.
