GEOGRAPHY AND CHRISTIANITY


In Year 9 geography lessons students will follow a Humanities GCSE which will focus on the Geography and Religious Studies part of the course.

Autumn Term 1:

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • Describing changes in the world’s population
  • Understanding the effect of Hurricanes and Earthquakes
  • Explain why the world’s major cities are so large and continuing to grow
  • Revising for an end of term exam
  • The main patterns of urbanisation in the United Kingdom
  • Looking at Land Use models and patterns of development

Autumn Term 2:

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • Describing the improvement to the quality of life of people in cities in the UK.
  • Understanding the problems caused by traffic in cities
  • The impacts of Shanty towns in poorer countries
  • What factors have caused global warming and whether they are physical or human?
  • Considering the likely effects of climate change
  • Understanding the solutions to the problems of climate change

Spring Term 1:

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • What beliefs underpin the Christian religion?
  • Why are methods of worship important to people?
  • The significance of Christmas and Easter in the Christian calendar
  • How are Christian beliefs expressed in contemporary society?
  • How the church and ministers impact on the local community
  • Describing the events surrounding the rites of passage


Spring Term 2:

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • How Christians respond to the problems of poverty.
  • What do Christians believe about racism?
  • How do people feel about exploitation of the planet?
  • What are Christian attitudes towards contraception and abortion?
  • How do Christian attitudes view modern medical advances?


Summer Term 1:

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • Reviewing the course and revising for the summer exams.
  • Exam question papers.
  • Finishing off their Controlled Assessment for submission to the exam board.

 

Summer Term 2:

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • Preparing for the Humanities GCSE exam in late May.
