Autumn Term 1:

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

Key beliefs in Christianity including:

  • The life and teachings of Jesus
  • The 10 Commandments / Beatitudes
  • Key Festivals
  • Worship and Prayer
  • The Church as a place of Worship

Key Beliefs in Buddhism including:

  • The life and teachings of The Buddha
  • The Eight Fold Path, The 4 Noble Truths, The 5 Precepts
  • Key festivals
  • Reflection and Meditation
  • A Shrine as a place of worship

Autumn Term 2:

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • Creation theories.
  • Using talents to help others in the world.
  • The place of humankind in the world.
  • Stewardship issues in terms of current exploitation of the planet.
  • Animal rights.
  • Care for the world and the environment.

Spring Term 1:

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • Religious teachings on pre and extra-marital relationships.
  • Contraception and religious teachings on its use in Christianity and Buddhism.
  • Marriage and cohabitation in Christianity and Buddhism.
  • Moral, ethical and religious views on same sex relationships.
  • Christian and Buddhist perspectives on divorce and remarriage.

Spring Term 2:

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • Human dignity, what it means, and whether it is something everyone has a right to.
  • The attitudes of society to issues of: Prejudice, Discrimination and Injustice.
  • The influence of religious teachings on issues such as Human Rights.
  • What is fair in the world and what is unfair in the world.

Summer Term 1:

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • Why some people believe in God.
  • How people respond to and experience God.
  • Beliefs on life after death.
  • The importance of worship for religious believers.
  • Why some people use religious symbols.
  • The value of religion in a secular society.

Summer Term 2:

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • How we can keep the peace and develop good relationships.
  • Explanations of suffering.
  • How we can help those that are suffering.
  • Forgiveness and whether this is possible in all situations.
  • The Just War Theory.
  • Examples of non-violent protest and what it achieved.

Cultural Studies important dates:

  • Homework will be issued weekly and will be written in the student planners.
  • Revision for end of module assessment tests. Students will be notified in advance.
