French

In Year 8 students study a variety of topics including Sport and Leisure, House and Home, Holidays and Daily Routine. Students are encouraged to use their imagination to research and develop their language – for example by describing a fantasy holiday, their dream house or the daily routine of their favourite celebrity.  Key verbs and the present tense are studied in detail, enabling students to build solid grammatical foundations for later learning, but the emphasis remains on finding imaginative ways to help students remember key information. As a result Year 8 can often be heard singing the verb “Aller” (“to go”) to the tune of We Will Rock You as an introduction to the simple future tense, or singing their Daily Routine to the tune of Jingle Bells!
