Physical Education

In Year 7, students study a core programme which incorporates a broad range of activities through 6 week units of work. They will have a chance to acquire new skills and apply them in more challenging situations in a variety of activities.  

Invasion Games

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • A variety of invasion games including football, rugby, netball and basketball
  • The basic principles of invasion games, attacking and defending, selecting and applying appropriate skills, personal and team tactics to outwit opponents.

Gymnastics

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • The principles needed to choreograph and perform a set routine
  • Their ability to work as individuals and pairs performing balances and travel actions with control.
  • Observing and evaluating the work of their peers.

Net Games

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • A range of team and individual sports such as badminton, volleyball, short tennis and table tennis.
  • Developing skills to maintain a cooperative rally where appropriate.
  • Understanding basic offensive and defensive tactics and combinations of shots to move opponents around the court and improve their chances of success.

Health Related Exercise

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • The importance of health, exercise and diet to maintaining well being
  • A variety training methods, including, continuous, circuit and fartlek training
  • Acquiring the knowledge to perform a warm up and the location of some of the major skeletal muscles

Athletics

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • Three main athletic activities of running, jumping and throwing e.g. sprinting, long distance running, javelin, shot, high jump and long jump.
  • Identifying areas of personal strength and weakness.
  • Developing a strong mental approach to improve areas of weakness and improve personal bests.

Striking and Fielding

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • An introduction to batting, fielding and bowling techniques in a range of activities such as rounders, cricket and softball
  • Students will develop basic bowling skills.
  • Students will learn a variety of batting grips and perform basic hitting actions with a range of implements.
  • Students will learn a range of tactics, including offensive and defensive fielding positions

Outdoor adventurous activities

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • Improving their ability to solve problems both individually and in a team
  • Improving their listening, teamwork and observational skills in order to complete challenges.
