Year 7 French

Students in Year 7 focus on acquiring a range of core vocabulary and grammar tools.  Early on, the emphasis is on perfecting pronunciation, learning an “Alphabet Rap” and learning to link sounds to letter combinations. As the year progresses, students will develop all four skills (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing) through a variety of topics including Describing Myself, Describing my  Family and School Life.  A wide range of interactive resources are used in the classroom to engage learning and encourage participation.

Students are also encouraged to use these resources as part of their Home Learning each week in order to reinforce vocabulary and structures.

 

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • Greetings
  • Counting 1-100
  • Using the French alphabet to improve pronunciation
  • Saying what items of equipment they have / don’t have
  • Asking for items of equipment
  • The verb "Avoir" (to have)
  • Saying how old they are / asking others their age

Autumn Term 2:

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • Months
  • Saying the date of their birthday / asking others
  • Colours
  • Describing items by colour
  • Adjectival agreements
  • Review of their learning and experiences so far

Spring Term 1:

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • European Countries
  • Saying where they live and asking others
  • Nationalities
  • The verb "Etre" (to be)
  • Saying what nationality they are and asking others
  • Saying what brothers and sisters they have / asking others

Spring Term 2:

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • Animals
  • Saying what pets they have and asking others
  • Describing animals by colour
  • Reinforcing adjectival agreements
  • Describing eye colour and hair (colour, length and style) of themselves and others
  • Describing height and character of themselves and others

Summer Term 1:

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • Saying what subjects they do at school and asking others
  • Giving opinions of those subjects
  • Using connectives
  • Telling the time
  • Describing what time lessons start / finish

Summer Term 2:

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • Describing a typical school day
  • Items of clothing
  • Describing school uniform with use of colour
  • Reinforcement of adjectival agreements
  • Designing and describing a preferred school uniform
