Autumn Term 1:

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • How and why the world’s population growth is growing so rapidly.
  • Understanding how countries develop and the Demographic Transition Model.
  • Interpreting population pyramids for different countries, both MEDC’S and LEDC’S.
  • How rapid population growth can be managed and a look at the case studies of China and Indonesia.
  • How Ageing populations are managed and a look at the case study of the United Kingdom.
  • The reasons why people move within and between countries.
  • The migration that takes place within and to the E.U. and why refugees migrate to the E. U.

 

Autumn Term 2:

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • What are the causes and effects of Globalisation?
  • Describing the main features of Trans-National Corporations.
  • Looking at where industries locate in a global economy.
  • A case study of how China has become a global economic giant.
  • Understanding how Globalisation has increased the demand for energy.
  • Explain how Food supply has been affected by Globalisation.
  • How we can reduce the impacts of Globalisation.

 

Spring Term 1:

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • Explaining how tourism has grown over a period of time.
  • What the Butler Life cycle model is and the impact tourism on The United Kingdom.
  • A Case study of the Lake District National Park.
  • What the impacts of Mass Tourism are.
  • A Case study of Kenya as an area that attracts a large number of tourists.
  • What tourism activities take place in areas of Extreme tourism like Antarctica?
  • Understanding what Ecotourism is and an in depth study of a Brazilian Ecotourism resort.

 

Spring Term 2:

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • Map skills to prepare for the June exams.
  • Interpreting chloropeth maps.
  • Being able to locate places using grid references.
  • Extrapolating data from graphs.

 

Summer Term 1:

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • Revising and preparing for the June exams.
  • Practising previous exam papers.
  • Peer marking of papers.
  • Self assessment of own answers using the exam boards mark scheme.
  • Completing the controlled assessment task for submission to the exam board.

 

Summer Term 2:

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • Revision and self study for the Physical and Human Geography papers in June 2014.

Revision classes to be arranged for after school to prepare for the Geography Physical and Human exams.
Parents to be informed by letter and in student planners.
Homework that will be written in the student planners.
Preparation for the GCSE exams in June 2014.
