Year 11 French

 For Key Stage 4 students, topics covered include Media and Culture; Sport and Leisure; Travel and Tourism; Business, Work and Employment.  Students are assessed in each of the four skills:The Listening and Reading assessments are by externally set examinations at the end of Year 11.The Writing assessment consists of two pieces of written coursework which will be done under controlled conditions in the classroom.  The Speaking assessment consists of two oral tasks. These again will be done under controlled conditions in the classroom.Regular booster sessions and revision classes are provided by the MFL Department to support students. Students may also choose to take part in the E-Mentoring Scheme, whereby they are paired with a student mentor from Southampton University.

Autumn Term 1: Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • Giving opinions about school subjects (using sentence starters, connectives and intensifiers)
  • Talking about the routine of a typical school day (using reflexive verbs)
  • Comparing schools in England and France (using negative expressions)
  • Talking about school rules and pressures (using "il faut" and "il est interdit de + infinitive)
  • Talking about future plans (using "je vais", "je veux" and "je voudrais" + infinitive)
  • Preparing Controlled Assessment 2 in Speaking / Writing

Autumn Term 2: Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • Discussing jobs and pocket money (using expressions of frequency)
  • Talking about part-time jobs (learning to predict when listening)
  • Discussing different types of job (using "je voudrais + infinitive" to express a future intention)
  • Talking about Work Experience (describing an event in the past using avoir and etre verbs)
  • Preparing Controlled Assessment 3 in Speaking / Writing

Spring Term 1: Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • Talking about the weather (using the present and near future tenses)
  • Choosing a hotel (using comparatives)
  • Making holiday plans (using "on) to say what we are going to do)
  • Describing a destination (using the superlative)
  • Talking about holidays (using the past, present and future tenses)
  • Preparing Controlled Assessment 4 in Speaking / Writing

Spring Term 2: Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • Talking about food (using "du", "de la " de l'" and "des")
  • Parts of the body and saying where it hurts (using "au", "a la", "a l'" and aux")
  • Talking about a healthy lifestyle (using "il faut" to say what you must / you should do)
  • Discussing addictions and other problems (using sentence starters to emphasize a personal opinion)
  • Talking about family relationships and future plans (using "je veux / j'espere + infinitive" to express a future intention/desire)
  • Preparing Controlled Assessment 5 in Speaking / Writin

Summer Term: Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • Revising and revisiting elements from Modules 1-8
  • Preparing for GCSE examinations in Listening and Reading
