GCSE Catering


Autumn term:

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • Roasting as a method of cooking different meats and vegetables, working with fish and shell fish and developing dishes that require high levels of skill.
  • Exploring legislation and systems within the Hospitality and Catering sector such as RIDDOR, COSHH and HACCP.
  • Developing skills essential for planning menus and events.

Spring term:

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

Coursework: Unit 1; Practical Task 2 International Cuisine
The coursework requires;

  • An extensive level of research around the area of international cuisine including detailed overviews of different countries.
  • Clear planning for the task of creating two dishes from a country of their choosing to include costing, time planning and nutritional analysis
  • Cooking two portions of each dish that demonstrate high levels of skill and presentation.

Summer term:

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • Revision of all aspects covered during the course.
  • Exam preparation.
