Autumn Term 1:

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • Understanding the theory of plate tectonics.
  • Explaining what happens at the plate boundaries on the earth’s surface.
  • Describing how Fold Mountains are formed.
  • Completing a detailed study of a range of Fold Mountains in The Alps and The Himalayas.
  • Comparing the differences between volcanoes.
  • Looking at a detailed case study of the Montserrat eruption on 1997.

Autumn Term 2:

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • Understanding the impact and effects of Super volcanoes.
  • How earthquakes are caused and measured.
  • A case study of an Earthquake in an MEDC – Kobe.
  • A case study of an Earthquake in an LEDC –  Kashmir in Pakistan.
  • How Tsunamis are formed and what are the effects on different countries.
  • A detailed case study of the Asian Tsunami in 2004

Spring Term 1:

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • The long profile and cross profile of a river.
  • How rivers erode, transport and deposit material.
  • Describing how waterfalls and gorges in a river system are formed.
  • Describing how meanders and oxbow lakes are formed in a river system.
  • Explaining how natural Levee’s form in the lower part of a river system.
  • Describing key features of rivers on Ordnance Survey Maps.

 

Spring Term 2:

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • Explaining how rivers discharge all of the water that enters the river system.
  • Describing and interpreting Flood Hydrographs.
  • Being able to describe why rivers flood.
  • A case study of flooding in an MEDC – Boscastle
  • A case study of flooding in an LEDC – Bangladesh.
  • Strategies of Hard and soft Management to control flooding.
  • Understanding how the water in the United Kingdom is managed.
  • A case study of a United Kingdom reservoir.

 

Summer Term 1:

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • Reviewing the effects of coastal erosion and weathering.
  • Understanding and describing what landforms are formed by coastal erosion.
  • Describing how the sea transports its load.
  • Explaining how the sea deposits material.
  • Understanding and describing what landforms are formed by coastal deposition
  • Interpreting amps and locating all of the different landforms created by the sea.

 

Summer Term 2:

Your child will be studying and focusing on:

  • Reviewing the cause and effects of rising sea levels in coastal locations.
  • A case study of flooding caused by rising sea levels in The Maldives.
  • A case study of how coastal erosion at Holderness in Humberside has affected the coastline.
  • Reviewing a range of Hard Engineering management strategies to cope with coastal erosion.
  • Reviewing a range of Soft Engineering management strategies to cope with coastal erosion.
  • Understanding the impact of Hard Engineering strategies along the Holderness coastline.
  • Studland - A coastal habitat in the local area

Revision classes to be arranged for after school to prepare for the mock exams.
